Call for Blankets

Winters in Montagu can be tough!  We received feedback in the autumn that there are people who will really struggle as the winter sets. This discussion prompted us to put a call out for blankets setting a target of 300 blankets.
As always we were humbled by the tremendous response from our community. Donations arrived in the form of blankets being dropped off, and cash donations being made. This included a generous donation received from Breede River Winelands Rotary Club allowing us to purchase new blankets. Without hesitation Sesli Textiles in Johannesburg agreed to give us a remarkable discount on the blankets allowing us to order 285!
Montagu Cares would like to share our sincere gratitude to the following people who provided their services completely free of charge:

• Harry van Zyl for the loan of a trailer in Johannesburg to facilitate the move of the blankets from Sesli to the transport company

• John Wilson for moving the blankets from Sesli to the transport company.

• RB & Son for transporting the blankets from Johannesburg to Cape Town.

• JD Stemmet vervoer for picking up our blankets in Cape Town and bringing them home.

The logistics of this move was expertly managed by our team and we would like to thank Ian Milln and Graeme Hill in particular for the effort they put into making this happen.

As soon as the blankets arrived our team of young volunteers jumped to action to unpack and mark each blanket that arrived. We are really pleased that Montagu Cares has a team of young Carers that we can rely on. We really enjoy the enthusiasm and energy that they bring to the team!

With the marking done our distributors set off and made sure that the people in their immediate communities received the blankets they needed. We also managed to replenish the Trauma room blankets at the police station.
